The Mount Batten Centre Charity Trust are asking for support over the next four months to help them fundraise for four new Canoes that is much needed at the City's biggest Watersports and Activities Centre.
The Charity is hoping to raise £2,600 between the beginning of June and the end of September to replace four Canoes that are part of the fleet that are used for lessons, training and school residentials.
The newly formed Charity Trust (the Centre previously ran as a not-for-profit) is planning a range of fundraising activities over the coming months including a cake bake sale, recycling ink and toner cartridges and clothing, encouraging more of its members to shop online via Give as you Live and choose the Centre as their preferred charity, along with developing a Corporate Sponsorship package to encourage Plymouth's business community to get involved and help get more people enjoying activities.
Alex King, General Manager of the Mount Batten Watersports & Activities Centre said "Whilst the canoes that we are replacing have provided many hours of enjoyment on the water to lots of people and are still suitable for on-going recreational use, we feel that they have served their time here at the Centre. We want to replace the oldest of our fleet with new canoes but to do so we need to raise the funds to make this possible."
The sheltered waters of Plymouth Sound make learning to canoe an enjoyable experience for many especially under the careful instruction of the Mount Batten Centre's team. The Centre are keen to encourage more people to try out this Olympic recognised sport but can only do that with a full fleet.
If you would like to support the Mount Batten Charity Trust's 'Can-oe help?' appeal please call the Centre on 01752 404567 or visit the Charity Trust info page here
