SHIPS

Hidden treasures of Plymouth Sound are being unearthed in a unique project aimed at cataloging Plymouth’s maritime history.

The Shipwrecks and History in Plymouth Sound (SHIPS) Project has today publicly launched a huge campaign to identify and log the secrets of the Sound which have remained hidden for centuries.

Members of the Plymouth-based team are appealing for the city’s diving community to get in touch to help create the definitive online database and historical reference of local finds.

City diver, Pete Holt, is leading the campaign as Project Manager of the SHIPS Project.

“We literally want to visit, photograph, measure, draw it, and then give it back”  “The items will help tell the story of Plymouth as a historical port, which has been in use by civilian and military sailors for thousands of years”
