School and Youth Groups

Our aim is to encourage, support and educate young people by introducing them to the challenges of watersports and adventurous activities. Visiting groups can be assured that the range of activities offered by the centre will be delivered safely by qualified and DBS cleared instructors. The Mount Batten Centre is accredited by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, the Royal Yachting Association and British Canoeing. Additionally we hold the Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge and we are acknowledged by Canoe England as a ‘Top Centre’.

The Mount Batten Centre is the ideal venue for a school residential trip – comfortable waterside accommodation, superb access to Plymouth Sound for watersports and with good transport links into Plymouth by train, the Centre can even offer an action packed stay without the need for expensive coach hire. Activity programmes for day and evening activities will include a mix of land and water-based activities. By working with specially selected partners such as Plymouth University and the National Marine Aquarium educational visits can be implemented into programmes. For more details on our schools programmes contact the Centre.

All of our staff team are qualified by the relevant national governing body (NGB). For Sailing, Powerboating and Windsurfing the NGB is the Royal Yachting Association, and for Canoeing and Kayaking its British Canoeing.  Where an activity does not have an NGB our instructional team complete an in-house training programme. Our instructional team all complete a DBS check along with a minimum 8 hour First Aid course – both of which are revalidated after 3 years.
