We were delighted to welcome some very special guests to the Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre recently, young carers from Plymouth based charity Friends and Families of Special Children.

As part of a three year programme, made possible due to a successful grant application from Children in Need, this very special group of young people were able to enjoy a week with us and try out a wide range of land and water based activities.

This is the second year that the Centre have been working alongside Friends and Families of Special Children to provide some fun activities and respite for members of the charity’s Fun and Freedom Club for a few hours each day during a week of the school summer holidays. The Club allows young carers the opportunity to meet other young carers and have some fun away from their regular caring role.

On the first day of the week long adventures, a certain bear made a special appearance too… click here to see the young carers’ reaction when Pudsey surprised them!
